Overview
As a professional therapist using psychotherapy, clinical hypnotherapy and hypnoanalysis, your therapy will always be tailored to your individual needs so that you get the right kind of therapy for you.
Set out below is some basic information on the main therapeutic techniques used with clients, including an explanation of hypnosis in order to allay any fears or misunderstandings about this completely natural state that can be of immense benefit to the therapeutic process.
Analytical Therapy
This type of therapy is used for the deep-rooted kind of problems. The technique works to discover and remove the underlying original cause(s) of the problem or symptom, and therefore the result is usually a complete and lasting removal of the problem or symptom.
It is suitable for many kinds of problems that have a psychological basis including, among many others, lack of confidence, low self-esteem, inferiority complex, unhappiness, feeling low or depressed, anxiety, panic attacks, worry, guilt, shame, psychosexual problems, relationship problems, irrational fears, phobias, weight control, eating problems, sleeping difficulties, stuttering/stammering, emotional problems etc.
Analytical therapy can also help with issues such as irritable bowel syndrome, tinnitus, migraine and other problems with a physiological aspect where there may be a psychological element involved.*
Suggestion
Therapy
This type of hypnotherapy is ideal for helping people to cope with issues such as stress, exam fears, driving test nerves, nail biting, motivation and goal achievement, some weight control problems and so on. The quit smoking session also includes suggestion therapy but is described below under a separate heading.
Quit Smoking Therapy
This one-off session lasts between 60 – 90 minutes; the last 30 minutes or so taking the form of the suggestion therapy. If you really want to kick the habit for good, please feel free to contact me for an appointment.
Archetypal Parts Therapy
This is a wonderfully empowering type of therapy that can help with many different issues, helping a person to discover hidden resources and overcome inner conflicts in order to start to get what they really want out of life.
As a client-centred therapist, a variety of other techniques may also form a person's therapy as it will always be tailored to the individual.
What is Hypnosis
Hypnosis is one of the therapeutic tools that can be used within a person's therapy, but is often much misunderstood or even feared. The many urban myths about hypnosis tend to mislead and obscure the fact that it is a completely natural state, and, when used in conjunction with therapeutic techniques, can be incredibly effective in treating all kinds of problems with an emotional / psychological basis.
A person is usually guided into the state of hypnosis by the use of the therapist's voice, though there is no actual “hypnotised feeling”, so a person will tend not to actually feel hypnotised at all. And contrary to popular belief, a person under hypnosis cannot be made to do anything they do not want to do, and they will always be fully aware of what is happening during a session and be able to remember it fully afterwards.
It is not the hypnosis itself that is therapeutic, although most people find it extremely relaxing; it is the therapy used in conjunction with the state of hypnosis that is therapeutic, hence hypnotherapy as opposed to simply hypnosis. The type of therapy used with the hypnosis always depends on the particular issues being addressed and will always be geared to a person's individual needs. The two main therapies used with hypnosis are suggestion therapy and analytical therapy.
Hypnosis is not necessarily used within every person's therapy, or may form only part of the therapy, but it is an excellent therapeutic tool that can help a person to make the beneficial changes they want for a happier life.
